Default alternator went, turns out to be one of the worst days yet..

Well, im on my way home from school at 10 AM I had a spare + lunch break,
I get to the last intersection befor my subdivision, the light just turned red so i stopped and right away i smelt something burning, smelt like coolant almost, then my VOLT light comes on, so i put the car in nuetral and shut it off, then the light was green i restarted it and turned the stereo off, i could hear this knocking sound, im thinking, i must of thre the belt, when i get home i open the hood, only to see that the alternator and belt are still turning but, the rear bearins on it are exposed and thats were the noise is coming from.
See pictures...
used to be more of chome color.....

and finally...

BUT WAIT, IT GETS WORSE, MUCH WORSE
IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE, YOU MAY CONSIDER NOT READING ON

So my dad tells me to take his truck ( 2004 Ram Cummins 3500..not a dually)
I tracked down a place that sells me a new alternator, 140 bucks including the core charge, so im on my way home, heading through a residential area, im going maybe 15 mph getting ready to slow down and stop at a stop sign when a blonde/golden colored dog, about the size of a lab, runs out , i slam on the brakes, the dog stoppes with the deer caught in headlights look, but she stops after my front tire, in this case, the rear drivers tire runs her hine legs over, trust me, i felt it, and heard the dog scream even over that noisey cummins, I look in my rear veiw mirror, but this time the truck has stopped on the ice, i see the dog go running for the alley way to my right, only thing is her rear legs are not moving and she is howling. So i turn right, park the truck, and run over there as fast as i can, but this time the dog is lying dead in the alley, and the owner who was walking her when her collar slipped loose, was standing over her dog crying her eyes out, i go over there appogizing and feeling absolutly horrible, a lady who was delivering the paper runs over and asks what happend, we told her. I told the dog'* owner that i will move my dad'* truck into the alley, we will load her into the box, and head to the vet hospital which is maybe 3 mins up the street, we get there the vet comes out brings the dog inside, lays her down on the table, checks for a heartbeat, no luck, the log was also now bleeding from her mouth. It was the saddest thing ive ever seen in my life, I waited in the waiting room for the owner to come out, there was no charge, if there would of been, i would of inisted I paid for it. So i gave her a ride back to her place, and apologize once more, she tells me its alright, it wasn't my fault, she thanks me for the ride, and tells me that most people would of drove away.
Anyways i get home, install my alt, all seems to be good now..I did show up for mechanics class about 30 minutes late, but I think my reason was justified.
Man, I know it wasn't my fault, but still, i feel TERRIBLE!
NOT A GOOD DAY AT ALL

A) Love the new cummins with the 3500 short box, only way too small of a back seat in the crew cab. That if I wasn't joined at the wussy with GM would have to be my play truck.

B) Depends on the person your dealing with who owned the dog. I would be inclined to get the person a sorry card or somthing if its a person you may see again in your life. If not leave it alone, and live with it and tell yourself atleast it wasnt a 5year old.

C) I hope your bonne stops giving you trouble!

Very impressed. You handled that situation like a pro. I'm a dog owner, and hate to see that happen, but you made the best of the situation, Matt.

Keep an eye on the battery. A bad alt can stress a good battery to the breaking point. Keep the paperwork on the new alt, too.

I know what those hard days are like, and you handled it just fine. There was nothing you could do and its no fun to see a dog die in such a manner. Don't get down on yourself too much bud.
