Here is a question that I'm curious about input.
What would you consider more racing.
Two cars running down a straight piece of road that you basically have to step on the gas and keep the car on the road
OR

a race course setup in a big parking lot that you have to push your car, your knowledge of the limits of the car and yourself as far as possible against other people doing the same. These races are timed events (for safety purpose, you don't want anyone causing damage to the car).

I think that the race course is more of racing cause you are doing more than just pushing a pedal holding the steering and keeping the car straight till one person gives up.

Both are equally important.

There is more thatn one type of racing. You can setup an old muscle with the goal of getting down the track as fast as you can or get a new "performance car" which has a lot more handleing capabilities but not the straight out power.

My personal preference is a car that can do both. To me that is a true race car, like a Lingenfelter Corvette or other cars in the same type of class. So I can't vote one over the other but I would vote both if I could.

I think racing should have more to do with the car than the driver. Speed and raw horsepower is more important in a race, and should determine who'* car is quicker, not how fast a driver can take corners.

You want to see some balls-out, driver-dependent racing, forget even autocrossing. Watch a WRC race on Speedvision. That is nuts... (and awesome to watch )

I agree with you completely on that point, I watch it every weekend when I can.
But most of us are not able to race in those conditions or with the proper vehicles.
But it sure is great to watch it.

Racing is all about the driver'* ability to not only react quickly, have good reflexes, but also keep the car in shape. It'* a SPORT, not a hobby. It'* all about people. Cars can't race themselves.

WRC is impressive racing if you ask me. Especially then they switch to the camera inside the car as if your with the driver.

As for this topic:
Racing consists of both, but in my mind when someone says to me "Wanna race?" I think of a drag race right off the bat. And I've built my Bonnie strictly for getting down the asphalt before the other guy, no additional sway bars or coil overs.

Both Drag Racing & Handling in the turns is important to me. I live for Drag Racing! But I do like to go fast on a curvey road too! I'm trying to find a happy medium.

To me... racing is more associated to the course then on a drag strip.. don't get me wrong.. I race every Fried Ricer around as much as I can.. hee hee.. especially when their girlfriends are in the car. Although ultimately.. track racing is better due to testing drivers ability to cope with cars.. drag racing is based more on just quick reaction time of the feet and how much money you dumped into your car to get the HP ( and in which case.. they could easily allow a computer to test that ).

I love WRC racing!! It'* fun to watch. Next summer I'm going to start racing...something....don't quite know what yet. There is a racetrack about an hour away from us where you can go on weekends to prove how "studly" your car is. I'd like to see some of those guys get beat by a girl. It drives them nuts.
