Off Subject: Race Car Handling in video game
Little off subject, but this is frustrating me and it relates to cars in a way...
So I'm sitting here playing Sega GT 2002 on my Xbox and I just got my B License so the races and events are getting pretty tough. Well all these damn Lancers and WRX'* are out-handling my Nissan Skyline GT-R. I finally realized that I should start messing with the suspension and camber settings (DUH!).
Anyway, if I approach a turn at the same speed of the car in front I go out way too wide and sometimes smack into the wall. I can go faster, then hit the handbrake around a turn but it slows me down too much to keep up. So I just need some basic advice if anyone has the knowledge on how to set up a car to race on whindy asphalt tracks.
The 2 settings you can change for handling in the game are Suspension siffness and Camber angle. Right now I have the suspension pretty hard and the camber is about halfway between the Minimum and Maximum settings.
And if possible what settings would be suggested for off road rally races?
Again, sorry if its a little TOO off subject, but it still has to do with cars. Oh and by no means will I try setting my camber in real life to my SSE!

Is your skyline an AWD skyline or just RWD?
Can you change the front and rear camber independently?
Generaly for fwd cars in autocross when they aren't going too fast is rear camber maximum or near maximum in and front camber about half in or a little more.
For RWD cars at many of the driving schools they put the front wheels to maximum camber in and the real wheels at around neutral.
For AWD cars I am not even sure what you should set it to. I think it would depend on what the front/rear torque bias for the car.

Funny, cause my two main cars are AWD:
1.) Nissan Skyline GT-R Vspec2
2.) '93 Toyota Celica 4WD
Can you restate what you said for front wheel drive though? I didn't quite understand.

I am taking the info regarding fwd cars from this article here mainly and my own experience.
The guy in the article David Fauth who is a damn fine autoXer. Down towards the end of the article he talks about how most FWD cars need some rear toe out in order to handle well on an autox course.
I don't think you can adjust toe in the game so I would adjust camber close to the maximum soley in the rear if you can. The faster the track the less I would adjust it out though just to see how that works. You will probably have to play with it to find a balance.[/url]
