Come to think of it, the most number of bright-red cars I usually see are in car rental lots for some reason. Maybe the rental companies did some survey and found that their bright red cars got into the fewest accidents...? i.e. When the clueless/hung-over/jet-lagged/just-plain-lost tourists got behind the wheel to blunder their way out of the airport, a bright-red car was easiest to spot by the other traffic.
