Default FWD, or RWD

O.K., I have a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi. Are they FWD, or RWD. I thought it was front wheel drive but I just read a little info. on a 1992 SSEi and it said it was RWD! Which one is it!

From its beginning in the 1950'* all the way through 1986 the Bonnevilles were RWD. In 1986 (for the 1987 model year) they switched over to FWD. In 2004 they are planning to go back to RWD with a V8. The Bonneville hasn't had a V8 since the mid 1980'*, so it will be great to have another V8 option.

The Bonneville GXP (with the 4.4L Northstar engine) will still be FWD. Thanks for playing though.

Dogh!

I know they are considering a RWD in the future--or at least they were.

Yeah FWD cars are easier to package and are cheaper to put together. Another problem is that GM has been doing FWD for at least 15 years in many of their cars so they already have the tooling for it. But GM will be bringing back some cars with RWD. Like the Pontiac Solstice hopefully with the 2.2L Ecotech engine supercharged for 240HP with a Tremec T-56 Manual 6 speed Tranny (Same used in Corvette/Camaro'*). I think they use an Eaton M90 to supercharge it. If it comes out, my first order of business is to buy one, slap an Eaton M112 on it and see how far she will go. :P

Holy crap. The M90 is already overkill for a 2.2 liter!

The Ecotec engine is a brand new engine designed by GM to compete in the sport compact market. GM has already done much of the testing to see how far the engine can go. Putting forced induction (supercharger or turbo), you can go up to 275HP before the rods/pistons give up. (Which is pretty good for stock). GM uses the Ecotec engine in their Sunfire and ... forgot the other car drag cars for the import drag racing scene. Those Ecotec engines are destroked to 2.0L and use forged rods/pistons but the stock crankshaft . Crazy huh? Anyways, still uses the stock head that is ported and polished, and most of the rest of the engine is stock (stock block holds up to 500HP or all of it, I think they had to modify it a little bit for the drag racing.). One of the drag engines makes 700HP, around there. The other one makes 850HP.

If you guys haven't been keeping up, GM makes a factory superchart drag racing scene. Those Ecotec engines are destroked to 2.0L and use forged rods/pistons but the stock crankshaft . Crazy huh? If you guys haven't been keeping up, GM makes a factory supercharger kit for the 2.4L now. It has a warranty and the price includes installation at your dealer. It'* like $2,500, dont quote me on that though. Uses an Eaton M62 or maybe 90, dont remember off the top of my head. GM is basically is getting it now, just supercharge cars from the factory to get more power. Like the Grand Am GXP with 275HP from a supercharged (Eaton M90) 3.4L DOHC. And you can get a 5-speed . Gotta get you to learn more on the GM line jr3800. I will get you there. And if you want to leager kit for the 2.4L now. It has a warranty and the price includes installation at your dealer. Hope that helps.

Centrifugal SC or Turbo are much better than the gm roots. As Hector said Gm is not making a Rwd Bonneville yet. Ill get you one if you want one made.
