I opened my hood this morning when warming up and as I put my ear to the alternator (being careful to not get it caught in my serp. belt) I heard a subtle
'rattling' noise. It'* noticeable when standing in front of the car with the hood up, but I didn't know what it was until I listened to the alt. Then after it was warmed up and I drove to the store, I listened to it again and it was making a high 'whistling' noise this time, on and off. I'd assume the rattling is the bearings going bad (like I need another problem).
What are other people'* opinions? It may have been making this noise for a while but I never noticed it as clearly. And my DIC/ compass... had been flickering within the past week, if that has anything to do with an alternator on it'* way out the door.
I hope it'* fine. Don't want it to die in the middle of the QEW
But replacing it seems easy enough to do it myself in a short time....
