Default Low Tire Pressure Warning! What is this all about?

one morning, running one minute shy of on-time, i jump in my Bonne and start the 30 min trek to work. i get a mile down the road and i hear the ding-ding of my cockpit warning center. looking down to see what i expect to be just another false service security warning i am shocked to see that i have low tire pressure warning flashing at me. :?

Hmmm, what is this all about? so, i pull over at the next convienient spot just before the interstate and get out and look at my tires. what do you know? my rear drivers side tire is low! Wow, this tire pressure thing really works -- were my first thoughts, followed quickly by what %$(%&#$ was messing with my car!

i make the trip back to the gas station checking and filling all my tires, only the one needed air, and i went on my merry way back to work. Thinking -- Okay, some kid was messing with me i will have to watch what is going on.

Next morning, i look at my tire same thing . . . same tire . . . i guess i have a slow leak. Took my car to a tire repair shop and they pulled out an inch long shard -- Yes, shard as in a blade like a knife tip -- and they tell me how they get all kinds of business due to the metal shreading company up the street!

Moral of the story - mind the tire pressure warning it works if one tire is getting a bit low!

I would have just filled the tire from the onboard air compressor

the problem is that the on-board pump is a tad bit slow and there was a gas station just across the street from where i stopped.
