Default scantool vs. OBD2 code reader

How do these 2 products compare in functions/ information gathered, easiest to use and price.

I have a OBD2 Code reader, put it leaves me lacking in extra information that I feel like I should be able to see ( such as knock retard...etc.). I want to be able to see/monitor/know as much as possible about what is going on with my engine. Call me nosey if you want. So which is it?

If the money isn't a big issue. Scanner, choose your platform.

I have had used both. Scanner is all the data you can possibly want when getting the GM Enhanced packages.

an Aeroforce Scan Gague can monitor up to 14 paramaters, the only draw back is that you can not record data, but you can do everything else with it tho

How much do these scan guages run and do they hook up through the same terminal?

Do your research carefully. Depending on what you want to spend, the "laptop/software" based data platforms seem to provide the most capabilites/perameters for the money. Many of the handhled "scantools" need the enhanced data packages for cars with OBDII to be fully functional and that adds to the cost of the better handheld scanners which can be several hundred dollars. A base handheld scantool for $200-$300 often times won't provide all of the useful information, such as KR, that you are looking for.

Here is the link and install info. I believe they are about $240 or so. Honestly, for the price, a very nice unit compared to paying $200 for a handheld.

Definitely. Again, the laptop based stuff provides much more live data and recording capabilites for tuning, diagnostic data, as well as pure entertainment for the plain old diehard gearheads who enjoy looking at graphs and parameters of everything possible
