valve springs
well building a set of heads for my L36 and after reading some post here and the cost of new spring and was wondering if shims would ok for my L36 whit ER rockers
my stock springs on my set of heads have from 1.95 to 1.99 (inches)
and i did see a post where use 105 springs where at 2.13 to 2.17
cloud shims be ok for me and gain a bit

While I've never researched shims. It appears to me that it would be about the same cost to source and install shims as it would the springs. You would probably need to account for spring rate and clearance etc with the shims

i have the heads a spare set that im doing a light porting on them
for cost
new L36 springs dealer =14.96 each x12 =$ 179.52
LS6 springs dealer =16.48 each x 12= $197.76 +35 retainer
#105 springs zzp = $89 +50 +40 shipping =179.00 +35 retainer
the 105 and LS6 will be much harder on my stock timing gear
so this is why im looking if shims could be good

If you drive near the border we can throw them over the fence. It'* always a reminder when you guys post up the duties and shipping costs for that extra couple miles past the fence.
Have you found or priced shims yet?

Don,
First off, 105#'* actually have a lower spring rate than stock L36, so they theoretically will cause less wear. 90#'* (aka LS6) springs have a higher rate, so should cause more wear. This is the primary reason I shy away from 90#'*.
Second, I had considered just what you are talking about, shimming stock L36 springs with ER/SR rockers (instead of buying 90#'* or 105#'*)...to shim enough to get the kind of seat pressures 90# or 105#'* can give, you will coil bind your stock L36 springs.
If you need springs and retainers pronto, let me know. I've got used (but tested and passed) 105#'* and CC retainers I've collected for my own head job, but that job ain't happening until at least Xmas break (so I've got time to replace them). I could ship them to you or to TJ.

what i was thinking is a 60mm shims so i have 1.950 uncompressed ht + 60 =2.010
