Default Need information PLEASE

In my endless jouney to de-bug my bonny I found yet another problem that I was hoping someone could help me with. I installed my 180 degree thermostat the other day, this works great, get about 180 to 185 while the car is moving, but when I stop it goes up to 210. I was wandering if anyone could tell me how to wire up my cooling fan to come on when I turn the ignition on rather than when it gets to 210? I searched the internet for hours trying to find a diagram or something to show me how, no luck. Please help!!

another question, why is it so damn hard to find information or even parts for Bonnevilles? I couldn't even find a manual at my local auto parts stores!

OK...lets tackle some issues here.

The 180T-stat is doing its job when the car is moving. So no worries there. Now the idle process has you a bit worried, fair enough. Check to see if you have dual fans on the back of your radiator. One should be the engine cooling fan and the other for the air conditioning. Now that fan will kick to life usually around 190 or 200 F, simply becuase the fan is calibrated to kick in when the cooling system in is not being helped by air movement (ie driving) now. There is a way to calibrate the fans to come on sooner, and I'm sure a few members have done that. Wait for em to chime in here.

Overall its nothing to worry about, just don't leave your car in idle if its not necessary.

As for parts. Check the links section of this site. There is a ton of information on 3800'* and Bonnevilles, you just have to find it.

Good luck

shouldnt his fans be kickin in at 200? i know mine do. and also id the A/C is on and its not just blistering hot oustside it should actually keep the car cooler because it makes the fans run.this information may not be correct cause im not a guru im just speaking from my own experiences.

If you need to leave your car running (to keep the a/c on to make it stay cool inside) and dont want a diesel truck maybe you should get a jetta or a 78 190se benz. A diesel engine would much rather idel.. One reason why 2 year old gasoline trucks with low kms cost so little(where I am) is the fact that there taken north of where I am and just left to idle. 24/7... so an engine with 25,000km usually has 120,000.. and if you dont believe me take a tour of ft. Mac or better yet syncrude.

It doesn't seem as if the fan is kicking on when it should be. I had the hood open about ten minute ago and let it run intill it reached nearly 215 and this time the fan didn't kick on at all. I sat looking under the hood waiting for it to come on and no go, so I turned it off to avoid any higher temps. I just want to wire the fan somehow directly to the ignition switch so when I turn on the key I know that fan is on and dont have to worry about it. I have wired the fans before directly to a switch in my dash in past vehicles of mine that had this problem (my 1990 celebrity and 1985 grand am). My Bonny means too much to me to have to worry about forgetting to hit that switch on. So that why I would like to find a way to wire it in to the ignition switch. While driving in city traffic my temps go up and down like a roller coaster and that drives me nuts. On highway I have been getting a steady 180 to 185 which I love. Anyway please if anyone have ever wired there fan up to there ignition like I wish to ir if anyone knows of anyone who has please let me know how to do it. Thank you so much so far, you guys are great.

What do you want, low or high speed fans?

Find your relay center under the hood. The two relays furthest to the right (driver'* side) control the fans. No. 7 is the high speed and No. 8 is the low speed relay.

On the high speed relay, whenever the dark blue wire is grounded, you get the high speed fans.

On the low speed relay, whenever the dark green wire is grounded, you get the low speed fans.

The ignition must be on for either set of fans to come on, the other side of the solenoid will not get juice until the ignition is on.

Also see my write-up.

I got a weird question...
I use a 'mechine' that has some heavy duty 16'' fans... those fans kick in when ever... even when its off.. very weird working on it I usually disconnect the battery... but is it easyer then that??

OK, I want High speed all the time.I want my bonny to run at 180 tp 185 no matter what. I also figured since my tranny is cooled through I guess its the upper part of the radiator that having this fan running all of the time will really help keep it slightly cooler as well. So all I have to do is ground the dark blue wire and the fan will come on with ignition??
