Default Need help before Sat Meet......

I was having my car service yesterday in schaumburg when the tech told me that I had 4 studs that were striped. 2 on the front passenger side and 1 on each back wheels. The 2 on the back wheels was so back that he could not remove the lugs with out breaking the studs. I had just had the wheel shop where I bought my wheels from re-balance the wheels due to a small vibration in the wheel about 2-3 weeks ago. So I figured that'* who did it. Service tech advised that I take it their and let them replace the studs and lugs. So I drive back to the southside of chicago to the rim shop only to have them break off 3 of the 4 studs just to take off the wheels. Now that the wheels are off they tell me that they don't have the studs for my car and that I would have to come back tomorrow and get the studs myself. So now I have to drive back to schaumburg to pick up my girl from work and drive back to the southside on 3 wheels missing 1 stud each.

Ok so I pick up the studs and go to the rim shop today to get them put on. Sounds simple enough don't it. And about an hour and 1/2 later the guy says that he'* not able to install the new studs but did remove both bad studs off the front wheel. And that he needs a big socket to unscrew the spindle nut due to not having enough clearance to push the new studs in. So for about another hour they called around trying to find this socket. Well I called pontiac to check to see if they were doing something wrong but and the tech were gone for the day at both dealerships I called and no one in service knew how to install them. So then they ask me if I could get one and bring it back. But they were going to close soon so I thought that DAMN!! another day i have to wait. Then he tells me that the shop was going to be closed till Monday. And that due to the owner being away that he was not able to say if they would reimburse me if I got it fixed somewhere eles.

So now I'm stuck at home with only 3 studs on my front wheel and if I don't want to have to eat the cost to fix this I have to wait till Monday. This is .....

So my question is ( took long enough huh..) Can anyone tell me how to install the studs myself. We tried turning the spindle all the way around on the front wheel to find enough clearance but there was not space or gap for them to side in. I don't want to wait till monday but I don't think that I should have to pay to get this fix either. HELP!!!!!!!

That'* sucks bigtime, I would throw a fit at the rim shop, they WILL pay for the damage if it where me. Just ask do I need to bring my layer here. Sucks double time that this has to wait untill monday probaly. Unless someone can tell you how to replace them. I dunno?

Why do you go all the way to Schaumburg for Service if you live on the South side? As for dealers closing early, I've been going to Haggerty Pontiac in Lombard and there service department is open 6am-2am Mon-thur, Friday they work only till 3pm, Saturday is oil changes and minor stuff but there is allways a tech or 2 there on Saturdays, Call them up. Also I hear that on ILGCP they are voted high for being mod friendly, didn't say squat about my pulley and thrasher CAI.

Good luck and hope to see you Saturday. I wanna check out those HID'* and rims.

Only because I use to work out there and I am still in there In Circle Plan with gives me 10% of all labor and free oil changes. Will check that Lombard spot out. I use to go to Haggerty in Oaklawn but I only had problems every time I went their. Thanks... I hope to still be able to be there......

Well got it fixed today. The total cost came to $62.60. $40 to have the studs installed. $19.16 for the studs. And $3.44 for the lug nuts. Now I have to wait till monday to get reimbursed.

it took 100 to put on 4 studs? each stud is like buck fifty... but its alot of BS work... removal of the rear brake essembly is a real bitch. Then you gotta get them pressed on.. a shop like that probably left it on the car and took an impact at top torque untill it wouldnt spin anymore...
weird thing is its such a new car... I quess you had a shop take off and put on your winter wheels and stuff like that... and they would probably use an impact, because its faster... although it does rape the studs... but thats not there problem...
