I went to McDonalds tonight..
Where there'* car shows every friday night.. And of course, I was at the one which hosts the shows..Bunch of kids with nice cars (muscle cars, few newer stangs/camaros, a few vettes here or there, 30'*+ cars, dropped/lowered/bagged cars, etc) and I come out of the place with my dinner, started the car, put it in reverse, and my engine made a weird chirping sound, and the steering wheel felt jumpy, I went to back out, had it in drive, then I saw a shitload of smoke, and heard this PSSSSSSSSSSHT, and the car died. I got out, looked.. there'* a ******* huge puddle of coolant where the car was in the parking space, then it backed up, then went the direction of the front of the bonne.. and my mechanic said my water pump was bad this past monday when I took it up there to ask about the leak.. he said it was coming from the venthole on the pump, meaning my pump was going.. Well, sure as ****, it puked tonight. I had to get a tow home. Parents aren't too happy.
Thank god it didn't happen when I was 20 miles from home earlier taking pics.. and just 7-8 tonight .. Tow truck took an hour to get there, though.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Uuugggg...... That is the worst part of owning cars.... When they break unexpectedly. Especially when $ is tight. Hope you can get it running without more problems soon!

That pump can be changed out in less than 1 hr and costs $30
On the 95-99 L36 I can do these in no time

Oh man, that sucks. I think I've had the water pump go in every car I've ever owned, with the exception of a CRX, (where we replaced it automatically with the timing chain at 80,000).
When I was younger and had no income, I got really good at changing water pumps and got really good at replacing the gaskets. Instead of the Permatex that the auto stores recommend, I'd go with Fel-pro brush-tack on both sides of the gasket. Remember to torque everything to spec. The performance of a gasket is directly related to the tightness of the fitting, so observe torque specs exactly!
The nice thing about water pumps is that they're relatively straightforward to replace, and a really good learning experience project for even a beginner to learn about wrenching on their car, because there'* almost nothing to screw up except the gasket, and even then you can re-do it without harming anything else.
I'd second the "change it yourself."
I remember wrenching on my 1978 Bonneville'* Buick 350, where the fan studs mount to the front of the water pump, and I couldn't figure out how you get threaded studs in or out without destroying the threads with vice-grips or something. That'* when a machinist friend of mine showed me the cool trick of jamming two nuts against each other, allowing one to wrench the stud as if it were a bolt. Man I really knew nothing back then.
