Default Newbie question - 02, 03 SSEi or 05 SLE or 04, 05 GXP?

Been reading on this forum for a few weeks now and am seriously considering a nice big Bonneville as a family car. The old 1994 Saturn has 214,000 miles now and is not fitting the bill.

I like the look of the 05 SLE and GXPs, but am concerned about longevity and mileage. I read on here that many recommend the 02, 03 SSEi and I'm looking for a direct comparison for those more educated than I. Specifically of the 05 SLE and the 02, 03 SSEi. Pros and cons of each?

I know about the intermediate steering shaft and fog light issues (GXP) and am also curious if you recommend SSEi, which year is the best and why?

Thanks all, great site!

SSEi'* are a little faster than GXP'* from the factory and 2003+ have slightly improved transmissions. I even think its the 2003 that have the "nicer" seats. Travis knows more about that.

Personally, I'd go with any 00-03 SSEi, but 03 is optimal. GXP'* are nice, but that v8 doesn't seem worth it in my eye.

Moving This to General Chat, as it pertains to Bonnevilles' however, it isn't a mechanical issue.

I recommend the 05 SLE. I bought mine in june and have loved it ever since. I get compliments on it all the time. I average 32-34 mpg on the highway and it is a nice smooth ride. I think you will be happy with it, I am. Rob

Well, for starters, I noticed you said a "family" car. If so, I recommend the SLE. If you don't plan to mod or go fast, go with the NA SLE.
