OBD 3 & Crash Data Retrieval
Does anyone know if OBD3 is a reality on any vehicles yet?
Parameters of sending out information without your knowledge scary!
What is this intrusive world coming to?
Also I found this all CAR MODELS link about CDR- "Crash Data Retrieval" interesting to see that my 97 PA even has an ACM.

My son (engine calibration engineer for Chrysler) tells me OBD3 is not in any cars, but the new Corvette has an advanced OBD2 that will signal GM if you change PCM parameters. This will void your warranty. In theory they can shut your car down, but I doubt it will be used for that.

i dont believe for a second they dont have it. im sure thats the legal answer. any car with internet or onstar capability could be easily sending anything it wants to who ever they program

its actually been known for quite awhile, any car with on* sends out info to gm once a month or so. my grandfather (original owner of his lucerne) even has a letter on it. the only way to truly opt-out is to unhook your on* box.

If it helps you sleep better, the "black box" analogy isn't that great. ACM'* only start recording when the car decides that the airbags should be deployed; then, a bunch of data gets written to the ACM'* write-once memory until it fills up in 5-10 seconds.
This article talks about the legal aspects of the module and your data. It'* long, but apparently more interesting than sleep.
As far as OBD-3, there seem to be many more conspiracy theories and decade-old chatter than actual facts or proposals. I think that as long as the manufacturers don't have trouble shoehorning new features into OBD-II, CAN, and OnStar; and that doesn't affect the states' ability to read the emissions data, there won't be an impetus to replace OBD-II anytime soon.
