Default Mid to high 90'* Mercury Sable

two guys in a I believe silver sable tested the bonnie tonight. I was sitting at a light and they gave me they go to race, I guess they thought they would smoke me because they saw my aftermarket wing and stickers on my door and thought hey this will be easy for us, he'* got nothing so he adds a wing and stickers to give him "more horsepower". Well the light turns green and we both take off, we stay even until we get to another light. Then when the light turns green at the next light we take off again, and I see him pull just in front of my bumper, and I am at 4500rpm so I let it idle down to 2000rpm and by the time that happens he is 1 car length ahead of me, then I hit the gas and I easily catch up to him and blow by him. When I was catching up, he accelerated, but I don't think he had a chance to even not let me pass him considering the bonneville has unreal passing power. The sable pulled into wal mart while I continued on. It was a fairly decent race.

wow, I'm in shock here. What transmission doyou have in your Bonny? I mean, with its unreal power it must be hard on a tranny, I'm surprised yours hasn't gone out yet considering how many cars you kill left and right.

what kind of comment was that? I don't have a big wing, in fact it'* coming off soon when I paint it and so are my stickers. My tranny is stock but will be replaced soon when I put my turbo in. Again I really didn't appreciate that comment also, is this pick o Unique week or something? I'm really getting sick of people'* crap, I was told to remove performance numbers from my sig cause they were apparent BS so I did and u guys still wreck on me. At this point I don't care about this forum anymore because ever since I got here I have been the center of people'* slams and I am not gonna stand for it anymore.

The point people were trying to make (in many different ways) is that it'* very difficult to believe with the weight of your sound system cancelling out your few mods, you're nearly neck and neck with my Modded 93 SSEi in the 0-60.

You'll get 2 reactions from this. The first is a straight BS call. The second reaction is genuinely interested in how you get those numbers, so they can do it too, or at least understand.

What I can tell you is this:

I firmly believe you think your 0-60 was what you claimed. What you should do is try another method of determining that performance spec, and see if you can back it up. Ask for help and advice while doing it. We have alot of great resources here. If you used a stopwatch, like many of us start out with, there'* a much bigger margin of error than you might think.

The G-tech is a little better, with the older model being very susceptible to being set up wrong. The New G-tech pro comp is a bit better, but still has it'* problems. The times in my sig (ok, I cheated) are the fastest of 3 runs. The other 2 runs were something like High 14.6'* Low 14.7'*. I don't know if it'* the Gtech, me, or the launch, or may be the car is just inconsistent as hell. I need one of those new Sony robots to drive it for a couple runs.

Nothing compares to the track for perfomance times. Nothing. I haven't had the luxury of hitting the blacktop yet. But I will.

Well said, will. I'm just genuinely curious, his car and my car are about the same mileage (he said somewhere about 182,000mi, that'* 294km), If I stuck his mods on my car, I'm just a but curious as to how my car would perform.

I mean, I already have the K&N filter, and my car being an SSE, my stock wheel/tire combo should offer better traction. My cat is something not intended for my car, but one grafted in out of some pickup truck, I reckon. I don't know how that'* helping or hurting performance, but it makes emissions like a brand new car. Other than the strut bar, that'* all that was done to my car.

</thinking out loud>
