Default School Question

I'm in school pursing a degree in automotive and my teacher asked the class a trick question. He actually used a 98 Bonneville as a reference and it shocked me, but on to the question.

He said- A person broke the passenger mirror and he went to the dealer to get a new one, but they quoted him $350. So he went to the junk yard and couldn't find any, but he found one on ebay for a good price. He ordered it and he made sure it was the right part. So when they shipped it he got it out and tried to put it on, but then he found out that he couldn't. Why couldn't he?

He said that the answer takes something thinking outside the box!!!!!! And then he said it didn't have anything to do with automotive.

Red face

That'* all the info you have right?

Ok..time to overanalyze this to death since we know these cars inside and out.

All Bonnevilles from 87+ always had two mirrors. I'm not sure pre 87.

The mirror is glass and adhered to a plastic piece that becomes it'* holder. Typically the mirror and plastic frame are considered the mirror or one unit. That unit snaps into place after and only after the old unit is removed.

Or if he broke what was thought of as the mirror and was the mirror, motor and housing assembly, and he only got glass then he would be unable.

I'm not 100% if 87-91 were always power, but 92-05 always had power mirrors. It shouldn't be a power vs non-power issue.

Then to take this back a bit..there must be something in the wording that is easy as most won't know this car like we do.

Outside the box. There is a bonneville motorcycle. If one got the mirror for that, it surely couldn't be used...although I think they are all older bikes and nothing in the 98 model year.

Passenger mirror as in vanity or exterior? Vanity is on the visor, exterior is for rear viewing.

because the person got the wrong mirror?
the person didn't open the box?
the person is an idiot and made a mistake somewhere along the line?
you shop teacher wastes time in class by telling useless uninformative riddles?

whats more important is how do you own a 07 M45 if you're still in school?

Maybe he was missing arms.

It'* possible he didn't have any tools. Or maybe he tried to put the new mirror on at night and didn't have a flashlight. I know these sound like jokes but I'm serious. Except for the arm thing.

Maybe all he got was a picture of it. Not an actual mirror. That would be funny, but would suck to be that person!

As it states in the story the person couldn't (so i guess he didn't know how to do it )
That'* probably why he went to the dealer to begin with.

That'* my guess:

Sorry peoples, I didn't get all of the info from the question, because I didn't write it down, I just kept it in my head. But the missing info was that the part came from england. So the answer is that he got the left exterior mirror instead of the right because the drivers seat is on the right and the passengers seat is on the left in Europe.
