The Last of the V-8'*
So I went out this weekend with my wife cruising up and down PCH. We drove out to Ventura and then down pch and were on our way back after lunch in Santa Monica... and started up tward the last few lights and stopped to get gas.
Now this must have been some sort of "crew" because all the sudden about 10 cars all pull into the gas station and I'm surrounded by white t-shirts and seats reclined at 45 degree angle.
We get our gas and this kid walks up to me and asks me if my car is fast... I'm looking at him stupid like..... trying to conprehend how an 8-71 sticking out of the hood wouldnt clue someone in....
I told him it held it'* own.... and thats when he floored me! He asked me if I wanted to race his car.... a 99 Civic Si w/ a greddy kit at 6psi. I didn't know what to say other than "honey, he'* asking for it not me"... and the wife just shakes her head in frustration.....
No matter how old you get, it'* in your blood and you can't get away from it..
So i accepted and he finishes getting gas and braggin to all his friends how he'* gonna toast me....
I started the beast and one guy yells that "the blowers a fake, it'* not moving"... and I just chuckled to myself as we pulled up to the light.... Ricer'* all around us revving their engines like they were the ****.....
I looked up and noticed a friend of mine who'* a cop sitting in his cruiser and I waved and he just shook his head.. We were going anyway.... it was up to him to catch either one of us or both....
We both revved up for the light and it dropped to green.
Civic breaks loose immediatly.... seems that pegleg works great for FI of any sort... and he'* pulling out....
Without effort I dropped the clutch and stayed next to him trying not to break loose.... wouldnt want to shame my domestic australian brothers by jacking up the launch....
We were neck and neck as we both shifted to second... and we both had the pedal to the medal... and I looked over at his passenger and he'* pointing and laughing and honestly thinking he'* gonna win.... as I pulled third gear I reached over and pulled back the actuator lever...
The 8-71 came to life almost instantly and I pulled the "air brake" style release button on the shifter transferring the power from the blower to the drivetrain......
We
Were
Gone!
There was nothing but tire smoke and distance by the time I let off.... enough distance that I had time to turn around and head back the other way to a pulloff and the last gas station for miles....
I pulled in and he of coarse pulls up with a few other cars and they are all stareing as I'm putting gas in it again.... and asked me what I had in the car...
I only said to them... "It'* the last of the V-8'*" just some parts i scraped together and salvaged from the other cars in my parking lot/yard.
my cop friend shows up laughing as he enters the lot.... and just shakes his head and says "drive carefully"...
Oh well... another young one gets schooled.....
when will these kids learn.
