One topic that often overlooked when the subject of drivetrains comes up is the transaxle. With all these new engine/transaxle combos coming out, it just accentuates GM'* inability to put a solid transaxle behind (beside?) the L67.
With the Series III L67 having 260 HP and 280 FT. LBS torque, the 4T65E-HD transaxle is at it'* rated torque limit. Rather than come up with a beefed up 4T65E-HD, it seems GM prefers the 4T80E because it can take much more power but it'* a bigger package.
Signs are the L67 and 4T65E-HD will have limited life from here...too bad because it'* a durable engine that responds well to mods, and it most be cheap for GM to produce. Guess the W and H bodies will still use it for a time but...
Cheers,

They should switch to a 4t80, but that'* too simple. WHy mess with the 60 when it worked better! It'* at the rated torque exactly because the engines are kept at that thru timing adjustments.
