Default Checking Tranny Fluid PITA

I tried to check my tranny fluid tonight when I got home. The fluid is still red, to me it smells a little musky, not burnt, but I don't have anything to compare it to.

I CANNOT get an accurate reading and I really would like to know what I have in there. I checked it as you're supposed to, idling, tranny hot. The fluid is always way past the hatched area. I also notice it'* pretty bubbly, probably just from the heat. Is it TOO hot?

Anyone else have this "problem?" Hell, maybe I've just had way too much fluid since last April? :?

I had the bubbling fluid the other day too. Mine is burnt, so it must not matter the state of the fluid. And the dipstick isnt accurate to me. My car was down to the add .5 liters of fluid mark. I ended up adding 1 3/4 liters and not going over the final mark? That debate is for another thread, but just sharing my inconsistencies.

Bubbling? Areated...basically from the fluid getting mixed into the diff.

Hmmm, well that'* nice to know. I should probably drop the pan soon and change the filter anyway.

To full = what kind of negative effects? I think I've heard of too much fluid being a problem.
