Switch to Liquid Glass for your wax now. It'* a brutally hard finish that will prevent scratches and fading.
Ditto on the clean often. I had a hood protector for awhile (half bra) and had good luck with it if I was anal about cleaning and waxing.
There was no SLE package available in 1992.
