A while ago I posted about having that metal ring around my passenger side low beam bulb, but NOT on the driver side. The headlights look different because it'* only on one side. Basically I want to take that ring out to make it look better. My friend has a 94 and has no ring on either side, so I figure I don't really need it, especially since my bulbs are aftermarket now.

Anyone know how to take the headlight apart so I can do this? Will it involve cutting, or does the glass part come off fairly easily? I haven't looked closely at it in a while so don't know how to take it apart. And even if it were better to leave that ring in, I'd want to then put one on the other side, so I would need to know how to take it apart anyway.

Anyone ever do this? Thanks guys/gals.

Pete, That'* wierd. I have the metal ring on both sides on mine. I had the whole headlight assy. off this morning while changing the bulbs. Did notice that there are metal retaining clips that hold the glass onto the assembly but for actually removing the glass that I haven't done.

I know of those clips. Funny things is I took those off and they really don't seem like they do much. A couple of mine are really loose too. Can't seem to figure out how to take the glass off. I'll take a better look in a while.

Thank a lot Jay! I'm sure they aren't assembled much differently. I'll go ahead and see what I can do. Hopefully it will be easy.

My biggest fear is breaking something. So I'll be careful. I don't have the $$ to replace it if I do.

Okay. I only have 3 clips on (which don't do anything IMO, they are loose and came off with a light pull. But I can see that prying it with a screwdriver will do the trick, but the edge is very fragile and I have already put some very small chips in the edge. I'm going to be VEEEERRRY careful and try this thing out.

You wouldn't want those beauts covered up with fog from the inside would ya?

Well I have repeatedly run a razorblade around the edge to get rid of some of the silicone holding it in. It seems to be working great and will be very easy to get off. I just hope I have some more silicon around the house for when I put it back together.

WOOHOO!! That was easy as hell. Just used a razor and it came right off. Now I'll just have to use a lot of the silicone to get it to seal correctly.

Also, I noticed it was silver silicon instead of black. I wonder if this was factory or not.

You may want to let the silicone set over-night and keep the headlight "clamped" together with either strong rubber bands or large tie-wraps. You definitely do not want it coming apart while you put it back together or fall apart while driving. Maybe get some additional clips from a junkyard. This job is worth doing right the first time.
