royal purple oil change
I bought 3qts royal purple and 1 qt lucas oil stabilizer for $30. Is this kinda oil change worth it? I change my oil and K&N oil filter every month on my 30 k miles motor ea month.

You can't get performance out of oil. At least not any kind of vehicle performance you can characterize, feel, or prove. You don't have a purely race-oriented motor. You can get the same protection out of any synthetic oil for a fraction of a cost.
Nobody here (or VERY few) run Royal Purple. Either change every 3k with dino juice or whatever interval you feel comfortable with on synthetic. I go 5k with a premium (oversized) filter.
You will read test results that show good UOA'* and improved fuel mileage, but in all reality, your results will be no different than any other syntetic or good quality non-synthetic oil.
I can't imagine paying that price for any oil.

FWIW
I have always changed my oil at 3500 miles on every vehicle I have ever owned. I have always used regular oil, I've never purchased synthetic. No one in my family has ever used synthetic. Most people in my family change oil at 5K. No one in my family has ever had a lubrication related failure in a car or truck ever. Never ever. We have kept cars always between 100K and 200K, sold them for other reasons like rust. My father in law routinely gets 250K on every vehicle he'* ever owned, drives them until they are unsafe due to rust, never had an oil related failure of any kind. Probably 10 miliion miles worth of collective experience here. So personally, I think synthetic is a waste of money, unless you need the protection because you run your vehicle hard. I certainly would not spend 30 bucks on oil. Just my experience and 2 cents worth. Mike

Don't bother with the Lucas.

No. We strongly recommend against using any oil additives as do most automotive manufacturers. Engine oils are formulated with a fine balance of additives (anti-foam, corrosion inhibitors, anti-wear, detergent / dispersants, oxidation inhibitors), and more is not necessarily better. The use of an oil additive could upset the balance resulting in reduced performance.

Well its good to get all the feedback. I may not really need the royal treatment. But I will stick to my once / mo interval. that is about how long it takes beforf the oil looks dirty on the dipstick.
