Technically, I don't think it means anything. It'* just to designate a trim level.

There are many ways of translating it though.

Like Sol said, no meaning. Just a trim level. But you can make up your own.

Somebody is going to bring up what trim level has a meaning

You can think of some of the newer SSEi'* as the cars with the Grand Prix motors.

This has come up many times in the past few years.
The "i" designation stands for inducted or supercharged.

When I was shopping for my Bonne, I attended a GM exhibition in Los Angelos where they were introducing the new generation of 2000 models.

There was a large Bulletin Board that outlined the following:

SE - Standard Edition
SSE - Super Sport Edition

...then a large explaination of SSEi

* - Safety - listing all the special safety features only available with this model
*- Security - listing all the special security features only available with this model
E- Efficiency - listing all the special efficiency features only available with this model
i - Intelligent - listing all the special smart computerized features only available with this model

Sure it was just marketing but I liked it.....and still do.

According to Pontiac (direct from them to me per our request for the forum), the ONLY badging that has words associated with it is SLE. Sport Luxury Edition.

SE has no word definition.
SSE is ditto.
SSEi is ditto.

Pontiac doesn't use the conventions that the other GM divisions do. Think of it as a random CODE, designating a trim level. The SSEi means you're loaded with all options including the supercharger. Nothing more.

Bill'* right.....

However, I like to think of SSE as "Super Sport Edition"
and SSEi as "Super Sport Edition Inducted/Improved"

But they are just what I "like" to think..... they actually have no official meaning from GM & Pontiac.
