would this help or hurt and is there anything else that would do the job

Dont use that its got an extra oxygen molocule (h2o2) if you rinse well you should be ok but better to use contact cleaner (isopropyl alcohol) dries clear leaves no residue.
Smear a little vasaline after to keep the air out or contact grease if you have it.
