X, I'd fire off a PM to jr's3800 if I were you. Point him to this topic. Your problem probably started due to a small water leak at the firewall. No kidding. He can point you to the source of the problem.

If you are going to unplug wires, yes those yellow connectors under the dash, make sure you disconnect the battery and the car has no power at all... Give the system 10 minutes before you touch anything...
I have headr of and seen a few problems with the Air Bag module, It seems that quite a few bonnevilles are filling with water or owners of the 92-99 bonnies are finding that their floor is wet... If you are finding that the floor in the rear is wet than chances are the front of the car is loaded with water too, but you havent noticed it...
My water leaks have been a large concern with me as the air bad Module resides under the passenger seat, and when the car fills with water the Module is pretty close to it... The module does not sit directly on the floorboard, it sits on frame rail supports.... But if these is engough water there it can cause some problems... In the next couple of weeks I will be repairing the problem once and for all...
I have found my leak to be at the center of the firewall, where the Fresh air intake is sealed to the outside under the windshield cowl... If you ever look really close you'll see foam that seals the fresh air intake, there is no sealant... I will be cleaning and sealing all around that unit and any body seems I can get to...
I'm not totally sure of how to disable the air bag system, but thats something you may want to research in a service manual...
For now my system is functional, and has no problems... I have been very watchful of the wet floor syndrome... And as soon as we had out horrid downpours I knew I was going to have to strip the interior out again...
So if any of you find that the floor in the back is wet, you had better strip the whole interior out and repair the leaks... Just a word of caution..
Strange thing tho.... The firewall of my 91 is almost the same thing as my 95, and yet here it is almost 15 years old, and it still has not leaked a drop...

How many places can they design these cars poorly and we still love them.. Even if they are reverse boats (water on the inside instead of all around the outside)

If the airbag light is on that means the system is working properly.. The light goes on because the computer senses a problem in the circuit somewhere. when this happens the computer completely disables the airbag system so it wont be blowing up EVER

I have seen my parents ( Montana) air bag light turn on before and it ended up being the seatbelt tensioner, it had to be changed. They have some little capsules in the tensioner that if they break they will set a code.
On the other hand, a couple years ago I heard or Grand Am air bags going off for no reason, no warning lights were on, they just went off.
