Default Tranny Problems??

I thought my tranny was slipping about 7 or 8 months ago, but haven't noticed any difference since. Now, sometimes when I am holding 40-45 (cruise off) for no apparent reason it feels like my tranny downshifts or something. I can hear and feel it. This is in Overdrive, and I have to push the pedal down to shift up again.

Sometimes from a stop, it seems to shift to second gear quickly and with a slight "jolt" for lack of a better word. Do any of these situations sound bad to anyone? How much of a warning period would I have if my tranny was about to kick the can?? What kind of expense would fixing it be? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for the help.

You need a scantool. No other way to tell.

Autozone will work. I have an Actron. It'll cost you about 120 to 150 if I remember. You'll need the cartridge and 16 pin cable for a 94.

It'll tell you EVERYTHING that the PCM sees. Shifts, TCC slip, ac compressor on/off, iat temp reading, rpm'*, vehicle speed, tps position, o2 sensor reading, and reads/clears all codes. And on and on. I should shoot an mpg movie of mine while I scroll through the functions.

Sounds expensive, but for what it does I think I'll get it soon. Thanks.

Will, someone just suggested that my tranny downshifting at a steady speed of 40-50 was the "transmission lockup point" I believe he said. Maybe it'* not slipping after all.? Hope not.

The tranny lockup has to do with the torque converter. Where it locks up is called stall and you can get different stall torque converters I think from ty
