Default what would you think of this mechanic????

I phoned a local mechanic that was recommened to me, and had a short conversation...He deals with all cars....but was honest about not wanting to deal with supercharged engines. He said I am the second one he knows that owns one. Anyways, is it a sign on a good mechanic that he would be upfront about this. He is booked up too so I might have a hard time getting my car in.

What are signs of good mechanics compared to bad...what to look for?

It is a good sign that he is honest enough to say so.

I would much rather have someone turn down work saying it may be beyond their capabilities, than have them get half way in and realize that they are in over their heads.

If it the supercharger that needs serviced, you would be better off with a dealer.

It'* not everyday a mechanic works on a supercharged car. I know this because my dad is a mechanic, and I've never heard him talk much about superchargers. He probably is a good mechanic for telling you the truth, rather than pretending he knows, and ends up screwing the car over.

It is a good sign that he is honest, but shouldn't be the only thing that is considered. Always ask for references. Also take his word for it, if he says he would rather not do the work, don't ask him to. You can ask him to recommend someone else. But remember to ask references and the right questions of the mechanic he recommends you to.

Good luck.

Yep, you got lucky. I changed an engine that wasn't bad because a mechanic said it had a bad cylinder. After engine change, found the problem was coil pack.
