Default Hot Idle RPM

I am just curious what it should be at. Mine according to the dash gage is about 800 while in park. I think it'* the same in gear but I'll have to double check.

The tach in your car could be off slightly, to check against the gauge you should use a scan gauge. As for what it should be I'm not very sure.

Hot idle in gear should be roughly 650 RPMs, give or take 25 RPMs or so. A scan tool will provide an accurate value, but on my '92 and '93, the needle on the tachometer appears to be almost midway between 500 and 1000.

The PCM will request a higher idle if the AC compressor is on.

My idle is ALWAYS just about, if not smack on 1000rpms @ idle, according to the tach. My scantool says something to the effect of "idle req. rpm = 855 (or close to that)" though.

Thanks for the responses. I just thought maybe it was odd as it is just below the 1000 mark.

Azu...

Your readings are actually right where they should be for your car. While the gauges can be off a little..our cars idle around 800 P/N and in gear at around 650.
