I think the intake manifold on our 95 is going bad. there is ahuge gap between the throttle body, and the intake manifold. When you blip the throtlte, there is this air suction sound that comes from where the gap is too! How much is this to fix, and has anybody else had this problem?

yeah it looks kind of big. on the Series I there is a plastic gasket with rubber gaskets molded into it. the TB is held on by 3 nuts.

also on our motors there'* a coolant passageway on the bottom (for whatever reason) of the TB that is probably on the series II that i'm surprised isn't leaking in your case yet ....

I replaced mine 3 months ago due to it'* complete failure, both at the TB and the lower manifold. I got it my local Pontiac dealership; it was (US)$305.00. Install this one yourself and save $400.00 in labor. But be careful... The upper plenum in not the resilient plastic that they think it is. DO NOT over-torque the bolts.

The Series II TB gasket is molded into the plenum, so don't go looking for separate ones. The upper-to-lower in a thick, plastic piece with the same rubber molded into it. It comes with the plenum. If it'* not there, call the parts guy and ask him where it is.

Unfortunately plastic doesn't handle heat too well....That'* why these upper intakes fail. I'll look into P/N'* for you at work....

If there is a gasket in there, your pontiac dealer should be able to find it for you seperately. Maybe DeathRat can help you out and check since he works in a parts dept at a pontiac dealership. Send him a pm if he doesnt see this post, and I'm sure he'll take care of ya. Only reason I think it would be available seperately was from doing my climate control stuff when I removed the dash. I made a couple of trips to the dealer to pick up misc small parts, and I couldnt believe how they have EVERYTHING listed seperately, even the small little parts. At one point I wanted to just replace my air distribution box.. completely.. the whole thing... but nope, they wanted me to buy every single little piece seperate. The doors, the motors, the little clips, the housing, etc... I know the kid at the parts dept of my dealer, and we got to talking and he says EVERYTHING is like that, so if there is a gasket there, I'm sure its listed seperate. If not, Black RTV

Havent noticed a gap or anything like that on my '95, but I do for some strange reason think the upper and lower intake gaskets could be replaced sometime. I havent noticed any major leaks, but I think it may have something to do with my engine loosing vacuum under load. Also, everyone I have talked to has done theirs 2 or more times now, and my bonny has 135,000 miles and I've never changed them. :?

Working on it Chris....BTW: It'* like that at any dealership since there will always be warranty problems & GM doesn't want to spend too much money to fix them....HEHEHE

The temp was set higher on the 95 they solved the problem a bit when they switched to a lower 180 temp. That said there is an aluminum Chevy unit that should fit. I have heard of this but have yet to confirm. I will talk to the yard I deal with to see. Good thing I have another plastic upper intake that I bought for my last engine. If I find a new intake I’m going to see about rebuilding my old 3.8.

The F-car intake (Camero/Firebird) will fit, but the throttle body will be over the belts as these cars are RWD and the motor is mounted front/back instead of transverse. I have not tried to retrofit my engine with one as of yet, but I will soon begin building a new 3800 (worked) and I think that I am going to try it on that.

DeathRat, maybe you can help me out here...

If I wanted to change all of my intake gaskets on my '95 SSE... Upper, lower, etc.. doing them all while I'm at it, do you know the part numbers of what Gasket Kits I would need? It looks like P/N 17113137 is a complete Upper Gasket Set which is 1/2 of it I think, but I think I would need a lower too right? Also, those part numbers look like they are GM part numbers. Do you show these gasket kits being availble from AC-Delco, or show any AC-Delco part numbers?

The guy I used to know in the parts dept at my local pontiac dealer before he left told me that on some itmes, the dealerships computer lists the GM part number, and then if its available they will give the AC-Delco # too (usually in brackets like this). He actually showed me on his screen a few times. I understand not everything is available through delco, but I get Delco for FREE, so if you could get me AC-Delco part numbers it would be greatly appreciated!!
