Okay well here it is i got the time to upload the pics and this is my thread/write up on how to replace a drivers side axel in a 94 pontiac bonneville SE

Okay so first i always lay out the tools i will need

Then jack up the car..make sure to put stands and blocks in place..i did not use stands as they are all under a camaro

tthis is what i started with

then remove your axel nut (i work my way bvack from the outside)


Then remove the cottar pin and crown nut on your tie rod and take your picklefork and remove the tie rod from its hole

Then remove your sway bar end link..this isnot a must but makes prying the lower contol arm down to remove and insert ball joint Much easier

Then remove your ball joint cottar pin and crown nut then you are free to pry down the control arm off the ball joint

now your ball joint is free

you then have the room to move your strut/hub around to remove the axel..to remove the axel from the hub with the nut off tap it with a hammer on the outside where the nut was then when free out of the hub push it as far in as you can to release the lock ring and it should pull right out..you may have to get behind it and pry a little

you can now install your new axel i always put the trans end in first after putting some trans fluid on the end of the shaft.then insert into your hub and ut your axel nut on a few threads deep

you can then pry the control arm back down to put yor ball joint back in the put your ball joint nut and cottard pin in

i then put the tie rod back in its place with nut an cottard pin then tighten your axel nut and then replace your sway bar end link

Tech info. How to is the old section and I no longer use that area. It was fine until I had dozens of write ups to sort threw.

So you leave your struts in place the whole time?
I've found it easier to take the struts out, rather than pull the knuckle off the ball joint. It gives you more room to work, and lets you turn the knuckle around to get the axle out easier.
I tend to leave the tie rod in, and the knuckle on the ball joint. I have a pickle fork, but I am hesitant to use it. You could easily tear the boot on either the outer rod end or the ball joint with that.
Its faster to just unbolt the strut, at least for me anyway.

I have mine to do (both sides) when it starts to warm up here. Its only about 24 out right now, supposed to get to 60. This will be the... 5th, I think, time I've pulled and replaced axles in this car. Stupid cheap foreign junk. Hopefully the OEMs I got will solve the insane balance problems I keep getting.

ive always pulled the ball joint out of the knuckle.....i tried to take the strut out and i got the nuts off but even with my impact and a hammer the bolts wouldnt budge..and i usually tap the tie rod end with a hammer or a ratchet from the underside if i have to
