GXP/Northstar reliabilty questions???
Hey guys, I was all set to purchase the GXP Bonne when my mechanic warned me about the Northstar engine. He says they use and leak oil by the puddles and are very expensive to fix and upkeep. He has alot of customers with these engine in cadillacs and Aurora. Since this is going to be a daily, he recommends me getting the 3.8 engine for reliabilty and longevity. What do you guys think. Just looking out for myself longterm thats all. The GXP is still one bad *** car.

northstar engines got this reputation in the mid/early 1990'* because those engines did burn/leak a lot of oil. The engines were re-designed around the 2000 Model Year to eliminate these problems. The newer Northstar engines have not had this problem as far as I know.

My Dad had either a 98 or 00 STS . By about 75K , he had gone through 3 transmissions and anti freeze kept disappearing (the mechanics couldn't find out where it was going).
