Okay I understand that SE, SLE, SSE, SSEi are all different classes of the bonneville but what do the abbreviations stand for?

Read that other thread. Per Bill (quoted from the thread I referenced):

Incorrect.

SE means nothing.
SLE DOES indicate a package option on the SE, and the Sport Luxury Edition is correct.
SSE means nothing.
SSEi means nothing
GXP means nothing.

This is from Pontiac, directly into my ear on the phone. Their explanation is that Pontiac isn't Chevy. The apparent acronyms are not meaningful. Just a grouping of letters.

SSEi, Slower Sedans Envy it

Seroiusly AGAIN (jr3800 sticky the meaning) SLE is the only one that stands for something. SLE=Sport Luxury Edition. Started with the package in 93.
