Default I love my Bonneville! (I'm also, apparently, an idiot.)

I'm an idiot. Here'* what I did: (1) Built a shelf along the back wall of my garage. (2) Put heavy stuff on the shelf. (3) Parked my Bonnie with the nose sticking under the shelf.

The shelf collapsed overnight, put a dent in the ridge line of the hood and scratched the paint on the hood. I figured "Okay, I can live with that." (4) Put the shelf back up, using long drywall screws to screw the shelf retaining clips to the studs. (5) Put heavy stuff back on shelf. (6) Didn't park under the shelf, waited several days. Shelf stayed up. (7) Parked Bonnie with nose under shelf again. ( Shelf retaining clips failed (drywall screws stayed put) -scratched the hell out the hood of my Bonnie. I could not live with that.

( Pay shop $760.88 to fix dent and refinish hood. I also had them redo my sideview mirrors while they were at it, since the clearcoat was failing on the driver side, and I scratched the passenger side on the entryway to the garage.

Now it looks fabulous again! Yaaaay!

But I do just want to say, I just think the Bonneville is a fantastic car. I've never enjoyed a car so much. It has plenty of power (and mine is just a poor non-supercharged SE!), fits all my stuff (my wife and I just had a baby boy), and is just a mighty-comfortable ride, but kinda sporty too. Love it. I don't want anything else.

Now to frame out that shelf support with 2"x4"*!!! (grrrrrr.)

Get a bigger garage

I'm lucky with mine. It'll fit one car and have plenty of space all around, "oversized" as it'* known. Shelves, a work bench, bicycles, lawnmower, snowblower, and a Bonneville (if it'* ever in there for any reason, the cars are usually parked outside) fit all comfortably.

Yes, I *definitely* need a bigger garage and a bigger house! Alas, I own a home in Silicon Valley, so my home is worth a lot, and I can afford a bigger house -as long as it'* somewhere else! :( So for now, I'm just going to keep the Bonnie away from falling objects!
