They might replace the Bonneville with the G8. It will have three engine choices. A 240hp 3.9L V6 FWD, a 295hp 5.3L V8 RWD, and the C6 400hp 6.0L V8, obviously RWD. The G8 with the 400hp 6.0 will be my next car if they make it. They better.

i'll take my '06 300c srt8 in black please
I dunno, I think the G8 w/ the 6.0 will be a match for that 300 srt8. I'll buy my G8 with the C6 drivetrain and you can buy you're 300 srt8 and we'll meet up at some track and duke it out head to head.

I'm sorry but the "pontiac" G8 will not sell at 50,000 $ People with that kind of money to spend don't buy pontiacs.. i know there is the rare few.. but no way. Even the 40,000 dollar barrier is tough for pontiac. That'* cadillac range..

EDIT: I hate the 300c .. i'd never buy one no matter what the hell is under the hood. Chrysler ...ehh. It'* funny how the front of the car looks soo expensive and the back of the car looks so frickin cheap ... hahaha bad combo..

Will someone please explain to me why GM is getting away from the 3800? I've heard people on this site sing the endless praises of our motor, yet we see new models that have 3.6s, 3.9s, etc. What'* the deal? Are they similar engine layouts with more/less displacement?

It sucks. Just as I'm starting to like this car and learn more about its inner workings they go and cancel it. I'll have to remember the 1997 Bonnie in 25 years and buy one to soup up as a "muscle car." These 92-99s will be the Novas and Roadrunners of my dad'* day when I turn 45 or 50. I sure hope the new models will be as easy to work on as the Bonnie. We're spoiled; we have an abyss for an engine compartment compared to most new vehicles.

The 3.6 and 3.9'* are OHC engines. Doubles, I believe. The rev higher, more like German or European-style vehicles, but not as high as r.i.c.e...thus not quite as "weedwacker on crack" sounding in the back. Top that off with some of that exhaust tuning that they have started to learn and we might just have something - in the right chassis.

Toyota'* multivalve and DOHC engines have been sounding sweet for the past 20 years - perhaps being an inline-six helps, but eh.

Camry V6 with opened up exhaust > 3800 with opened up exhaust

(just IMO)

I don't think the redline has anything to do with the exhaust note. The Honda S2000 isn't awfully "farty", yet its redline is uber-high, and totally snarls at 9000rpm?

It'* sad to see the end is comming for the bonne. I do agree that going to rear wheel drive is good though, and a V-8.....

General Motors can't use the same damn engine for 20 years straight. They will get many complaints for not ever updating anything. Regaurdless, i believe this 3900 is a much better engine ..i mean, c'mon! 250 horsepower N/A .. why complain?! My supercharged 3800 might put out that much... and i've got a free flowing muffler and intake. If they can price this RWD G8 around 38,000, it'* gonna sell.

I love the new GTO'* .. Pontiac started off simple with them so they would have MUCH room to move up in the future. 05'* already have the 400HP LS2, true dual exhaust that shows one tip on each side of the rear facia, HOOD SCOOPS! and i believe 18" standard rims. Still complaining? Judge GTO ...any comments?? Be happy and spank those, still slow, retro-stangs!

If the G8 will be $38,000 and have a decent interior, it'll sell. The current 2000+ setup is totally not up to par, IMO.

IIRC, GM went "simple" with the GTO because they didn't have/want to spend the time/money on updating the Holden Monaro. I'll still take mine as they are for 2004, true dual exhaust exitting to two outlets on one side, no hoodscoops, and them rims. So clean

(Bring on the [hopefully RWD] G8)
