GM has to pay healthcare, which alot of newer imports do not have to do. This screws them over BIGTIME when you think about how many workers they have (and all the retired ones too).
That, along with the fact that most of the new cars they have put out recently have SUCKED (aztek, SSR, just to name a few), when they are spending MILLIONS of dollars designing and building these cars when they cant even make the new bonneville better than the old one.
Here is an example, take the new Cobalt they just put out. Mitsubishi also redid the Eclipse and put in a new motor that has 60hp more than the cobalt! And the Eclipse looks better too!
I say getting rid of a brand will do GM some good, they need to put more effort into making the cars they produce now better than slightly different versions of the same crap.
Sorry if it sounds like I hate GM, I dont. I would like nothing more than to see them make a comeback. Unfortunatly I do not think it will happen.

and didn't I read somewhere recently where GM paid 2 billion or something like that to get out of a partnership agreement with fiat that they never should have entered into?
