Reading that thread made me really think about GM'* future. If they dump the Bonneville, it won't hurt the company. Give them a few years, and they come out with a brand new car to take it'* place.
I see some serious reformations taking place inside the ol' Ren Cen in Detroit coming soon.

This doesnt surprise me about GM at all. I mean for them to have the SSEi dropped to a GXP model, then cut that off for a few years and bring it back as a G8? Normal GM procedures to me.

In 1995 there were nearly 100,000 Bonneville'* sold. Last year there was less then 30,000. I honestly believe the newest model lost it'* touch. The 88-91 was great for it'* time. The SSE was ahead of it'* time. In 92 they got a new interior and body, more power with the same response, and even more toys.
In 92 the new car was damn good. Everything isn't made overly complicated. Headlights can be removed easily, the engine can be worked on easily, everything is within easy reach. The wipers hide, the sprayers are under the hood as well. The HUD was introduced to the platform, etc. Still had all the great 88-91 underpinnings, but they made it even better where they could.
Some things went away in 96 with the redesign, and when the body was changed to the G/H hybrid it lost character to share it'* platform with other sedans, hell it lost it'* light under the hood. How many $30k+ cars don't even have a headlight under the hood? Sure in 00 they got all sorts of stuff like the new magnasteer, rear discs, but look at the sales and you'll see what the story is with the public.

My nephew is graduating from college this spring and was in the market for a new car. Since he had no interest in a truck or SUV, there honestly wasn't a thing in the GM lineup or the Big 3 lineup for that matter that I could think of to recommend to him.
Boring as it may sound, he bought a Camry.
It certainly sounds like the handwriting is on the wall as far as the Bonneville goes.

I personally think GM is once again dropping the ball and is going to lose more sales by dropping the bonneville.
They are working to reduce overlap but if they drop the Bonneville to reduce the overlap with Buick they have their heads on backwards. I know I wouldn't buy a buick because it was the better of the Pontiac/Buick overlap. I just can't see a Buick being set up for the the kinds of things a Bonneville was created for.

The SUV, introduced in 2003, was expected to generate annual sales in excess of 125,000, according to a supplier.
AHAHAHAHAH. The 12,000 and some odd units sold really made my day.
I agree. The XUV is too expensive, and their is nothing special about the Bonneville. Kill both of them.
I said it before and I'll say it again: Bring on the G8. It had better beat the living snot out of everything else on the road (read: making a sizable dent will suffice), or else it'll suffer the same fate: death. The (current) Bonneville really does it for people like we see here on BC. But who else? Not much.
I don't intend to start an argument over this, my words aren't gospel, but this is what I seriously think.
