I don't remember if I posted the whole fiasco about Best Buy screwing my car up or not over here, but basically the damage came out to being a parking brake warning lamp that is inoperable, occasional "air bag problem" warnings, and they ground down my valet key to a little nub that'* inoperable. Fast foward a few days. I got tired of going back to BB so I decided to buy my OWN, new PK3 key. I searched around ebay and found that the CHEAPEST PK3 key is one that has the Chevrolet logo on it. I figure, no big deal, it'* only my spare key anyways. I checked all over and could NOT find my original key on Ebay. The Aurora has the aurora logo on the key, and there weren't any available online, and GM wants upwards of $50 for the key. I buy the Chevy key for $10 on Ebay, and after $4 of shipping, I get my brand spanking new Chevy key in the mail. I take it to the dealer and ask if I could get a copy of my key made for my Aurora. She said she wouldn't copy it unless I could prove I owned the car. I appreciated the security precaution, and showed my registration to her.. no big deal.. Then she asked for my license... again, I appreciated it for the security reasons. What started to make me mad was when she asked me for my original keys, and the new key. I hand her my original key, then the Chevy key. She looked at it and said that the key won't work for an Oldsmobile because it has a Chevy logo on it. I told her that they were both PK3 keys and were the SAME blank so it would work. She said that a Chevy PK3 key is different than an Olds PK3 key. I told her they were idential. She refused to cut the key and proceeded to say that I would have to buy an Oldsmobile key, instead, for the tune of $75 for the key, and to get it cut. I said NO very firmly, and told her to amuse me and cut the key anyways. After repeating a few times it would work fine and I was going to prove her wrong, she agreed to try it. After she cut the key she asked where "the oldsmobile" was. I led her to my car and she said to have my other key ready because the alarm was going to go off... She unlocked the car with the Chevy key with no problem and the alarm didn't go off... She said that the alarm must not have been armed and to have the key ready again when she tried to start the car. (I won't go over the procedure of how to program a new key on a web forum for security reasons, but I do know how if anyone is interested, PM me.) anyways, she successfully programmed the key and who would have thought a CHEVY key woudl work in an OLDSMOBILE! (I did obviously.) stupid dealerships trying to get more money.. Just for proving her wrong, she let me go without even paying for the key being copied.. Too cool!

As I was getting ready to get in my car, I said to her "it looks like the only difference between the Chevy key and the Oldsmobile key after all is about $40."

Haha, that'* hilarious!! Does BB still owe you compensation though?

they wont' pay for anything because when I signed the contract to get the remote starter installed I 'accepted that some modifications to the vehicle may be required." That included destroying the key I guess. To top it all off, they couldn't even install the remote starter... they gave up after working on the car for 18 hours.

You accepted modifications, but you didn't accept broken parts.

If your dash is lighting up like a street competition for Christmas lights THEY should fix it.

wow. Didn't even know that. Seems like Gm would want to keep it a little less obvious on how to get the key copied, then it'll work without any "official" programming. It'* almost TOO easy.
