Default oil

here i go again. (not to quote whitesnake or anything)

bonne is getting her oil changed monday
i know every 3500 miles is the rule buttttttt im wondering if there is an oil that really is top quality. Ive heard about Mobil 1, quakerstate...perhaps a synthetic every 5-10,000 miles?? is it true you can go 5000 miles without changing the oil?

the car just rolled over 101k and runs awesome
i just want to kinda help the engine in its higher mileage days and an oil that will last long would be awesome

Yes, you can go 5000 miles on Mobil 1. Be sure to use a good filter too (NOT FRAM). That'* JUST as important. I run Mobil 1 with a K&N oil filter or Mobil 1 filter.

Moving to General Chat. This isn't a Performance topic. Oil changes are a regular maintenance item.

Would it be a problem to switch to Mobil-1 full synthetic at 86k? What is that small type Peter, "other than the spun bearings in my motor"? I think I'll avoid the Fram filters. So you guys suggest Mobil-1 filters or K&N?

i have 145,000 miles on my '00 SSEi
and i change the oil every 10,000 miles( Mobil-1 full synthetic 5w30)
i also use an oversize filter, made for the 4.3L Chevy V6
use a good oil filter like Baldwin, Wix or Purolator Pure One
you can switch to synthetic oil anytime you want.

You can run the cheapest dino-juice you want, and any filter other than Fram, and your engine will look brand new at 150,000 miles inside. It all depends on how long you want to go between oil changes.

Our engines RARELY have any oil-related failure unless it'* caused by neglect or some other factor (like coolant mixing with the oil.

I personally run Mobil1 5W30 and a K&N filter for 5000 miles in the SSEi, and the cheapest dino juice the local drain and dump puts in for the SLE.
