I think the blended celluose, synthetic fiber and glass media Amsoil uses is different from the Hastings design....The average pleat count i think is higher as well.
The other internal parts look the same to me, for example both filters use a coil spring and not a clicker for the bypass valve. The Amsoil filters may also use a thicker canister, but I haven't cut one open yet to find out.
Also If you look at SAE H806 oil filter test data for the Hastings filters and i don't
have it at the moment
, you'll see they are step down from the Amsoil and Mobil 1 product lines. To be fair, they are also quite a bit less expensive.
