Old topic i know. I have found (through experience on my 94) that it is very easy to just cut the entire led and housing off. I resoldered a 330 Ohm resistor (per my requirements cause it was a 2 volt LED that drew 30mA) and a 5mm (T-1 3/4) LED fits into the clear cylinder/diffuser/holder. And the tention of the wire from the harnesss held the LED in place, but a touch of hotglue on the rim or tape would do a more perm job. I put in about a 900mcd Bright Red LED and it is sweet...
