Do I have variable assist steering? 2004 Bonny
Ok, the car has over 200k on it, the front end is a little loose and the suspension is tired. Time to replace most of the suspension/steering in the front end, including the tie rod ends, struts and ball joints.
The problem is does my Bonny have variable assist steering? I would check the RPO code on the spare tire cover but a water leak in the trunk washed them away and kind of ruined the label. That was a few years ago, sealed up the taillights to fix that.
Car is a 2004 SE Bonny. It appears the tie rod ends are different for the assist and non-assist models.
Will the VIN tell me anything about this?
Is there an obvious difference in the rack or pump?

Doesn't make sense that the tie rod ends would be different.......
The C and H bodies had the MSVA system, sometimes called Magnasteer......look at the spool valve on the rack....if you see a wiring harness coming off it, you have magnetic steering variable assist......no harness, regular rack....

Thanks, I'll check this out. It doesn't make sense to me either that the tie rod ends would be different but the parts places all want to know which style it is. Maybe slightly different lengths!
