chevy sonic oil change percentage??
I have a 2012 chevy sonic and have creeped close to 9,000 miles on this last oil change. I am currently down to 20% oil life remaining. I wondered what is a normal oil change percentage that the oil should be changed? my oil change soon light comes on about 10% but that just sounds like there'* not much left of the oil properties. book said to wait til light comes on

The PCM is programmed with variable tables on how to "judge" when the oil should be changed. It usually uses engine hours, miles, how hot the engine runs and % of time it runs wide open throttle.
As long as you are using the recommended oil, then I see no reason to worry. Unless GM programmed the PCM wrong.

cool thank you. usually pretty anal about oil changes. changing from whatever the dealer uses dexos 1 oil. to a full synthetic signature amsoil product. 1 year 25,000 mile oil.
i guess it amazes me how long oil changes intervals are now days

I would check with the dealer. I know it use to be if you went over 10,000 miles between oil changes you would void your warranty. But that was when the interval was 3000. Now most are I think 5000.

I couldn't find a 2012 manual, but did find a 2013...
Engine Oil Change
When the Code 82 DIC message
displays, have the engine oil and
filter changed within the next
1 000 km/600 mi. If driven under the
best conditions, the engine oil life
system might not indicate the need
for vehicle service for more than a year.
The engine oil and filter must
be changed at least once a year
and the oil life system must be
reset. Your trained dealer technician
can perform this work. If the engine
oil life system is reset accidentally,
service the vehicle within 5 000 km/
3,000 mi since the last service.
Reset the oil life system when the
oil is changed. See Engine Oil Life
System on page 10‑11.

Here is another one that says at 7500 miles to check the oil and oil life moniter and change oil if needed. Time For New Oil? - 2012 Chevrolet Sonic Long-Term Road Test

Change your oil every 5 to 7 thousand miles. Considering dexos is a synthetic blend mileage is extended. The oil life monitor system is a joke, I have seen vehicles come in with 15 thousand miles on a oil change and still showing 20percent life left. Watch you mileage and you will be fine.

Early oil change is ok, but late is worse.
