...while the car was running... how would you shut off the car?

I ask this out of curiosity, seeing that our Bonnies are all automatics. RicerSon'* 91 Chevy *-10 did just that tonight in the driveway. He started the truck, but couldn't turn the ignition away from him to the off position. Luckily this truck is a standard (can stall it out).... but... what if it was a Bonnie w/automatic transmission?

First thing that came to my mind was pull the fuel pump fuse. I'm sure several others would do the trick...

Unhook the battery
Unhook the fuel pump relay
take off the intake tubing and cover the throttle body to starve the engine of air


and the good thing about having a standard is to start it back up (if the key doesnt turn forward) push it in gear and pop the clutch to start it. :P

Happened to me between paydays a few years ago.

Luckily I was in a training class that week, I would drive the 80 miles to class in the AM, pull the ECM fuse upon arrival, which stalled the engine. Then unhook the battery to shut everything else down. When time to go home, reinstall ECM fuse then reconnect battery, start up and go home. Leave only the ignition key in it and lock doors.

Worked till I got paid and could fix it.

edited to add, yes it was one of the Bonnevilles, ended up costing 90 bucks to fix, needed all I had for gas that week

or just dont break the ign switch.

i had it happen to my in my mercury, xcept i could turn the ign off and take the key out but it would stay running, so i shoved a towel in the intake and it stalled out

Learn to READ your own self. When I was there he bought a standard. You complained about it being a standard and in your own words.. you say that it'* an automatic with a clutch?
