Default 3800series 2 2,500rpm after cruise control?

hey all. im posting this here because i cant really find any answers anywhere and its not really model specific. so long story short, this is the 2nd time this has happened. the first time, i don remember if i was using cruise or not, i was just commuting. (about 4 months ago) but i was driving home on wednesday night, and i noticed my car seemed like it was catching drafts on other cars really well in southern illinois. one instance it was "coasting" at 75mph and i was having to ride the brake because my radar was going nuts. (a cop was lidaring me) but anyway i just figured it was because we were going down hill and reset the cruise at 80 and was on my way. at the last exit in illinois the gf said she had to pee. i got off the interstate and my car is at about 2500rpm at the stop sign. there was nothing but a seedy looking truck stop here so i "idled" up the road looking for a driveway to check the car out. from a dead stop this damn car went to 55mph on its own. i pulled off in a random driveway, turned the car off turned it back on, right back up to 2500. played with the gas pedal, pulled it back with my toe, nothing. so what i ended up doing was with the car off i got out and played with the linkage on the throttle body for a few mins, running it from WOT to closed. turned the car on and it idled perfect. so on the off chance it was the cruise, i drove the rest of the 5 hours or so with my foot. and with size 15 feet, i gave myself one hell of a cramp in my calf lol.

once we got home and unpacked, we were both beat. so we went to mcdonalds for dinner. pulling up to the light before mcdonalds, it died when the torque converter released like a cold carbureted engine. started right up and we took off like normal.

now with that, and the fact that some mornings (i always warm my car up) the car will act like im giving it half of the throttle i really am and it will randomly snap your head back when it realizes, hey he'* giving me half throttle not a quarter, im thinking its the tps or maf or both. when my dads car randomly died at lights like mine did it was the maf, so im thinking both. but i thought id get some opinions on what it is. as soon as i can find the weird camera battery that goes in my ohmeter ill test the maf and tps with the tutorial on here but i was wondering if the cruise had anything to do with it or anything like that. because when i went under the hood and turned the linkage i felt no resistance more than the spring in the throttle body. and can the tps even make it idle so high on its own? there were no codes thrown or anything.

one of my thoughts were i hadnt turned off the car from kankaee illinois to cairo illinois and theres an elevation change (315 feet), but then i remembered it did the high idle thing (it was only 1500 rpm though) here in memphis.

any ideas are greatly appreciated!
