Default Bonneville timeline---EGR valve question.

Deathrat, I understand your 92SE is EGR-less? My 93SSEi has an electronic EGR valve, but so does JSeabert'* 93SSE. Why did they put the EGR valve on the SSE when it shared a drivetrain with the SE?

What other years and models had no EGR valve? Were the earlier models EGR-less, or did they have mechanical or electronic valves?

1992 was the only year that saw no EGR Valve on our 3800. When GM tested the 3800 for Emissions in 92, it met Emissions testing W/O the need for one, therefore GM didn't install one. All the other years of 3800'* got one because of Emissions testing & the fact of premature Valve Burning & Exhaust Manifold cracking! I've been told that some 93'* did get the 92 EGRless 3800 because of the left over engines from the year before. :?

Ok, did the 92 L67 also go egr-less? Or was it only the L27?

I think it was just the NA, but I'll check. Does anyone here have a 92 SSEi That can confirm this?

How the hell does a linear EGR valve work?

I know what you mean. My digital threw a code 2 months ago. One of the 3 solonoids was sticking. A little teflon spray fixed 'er right up, but looking at that little monster made me think it'd be expensive to replace.

Is the linear variable, or is it just opened/closed? I know there are great advantages to the digital type in variability. I'd hate to see GM go the other way.

What would we do without you, gearhead? If you weren't a guy, I'd kiss you
