Default Question on Transmission

I have a 1998 Bonnie SE. I've noticed that when I try to take off from a standing start(as in stomping on it). The car begins to shake as if its not geting in gear, and the noise is horendous. If I give it a little gas first and THEN hit it I can get it to go . As you may know this is a problem when taking on ricers and fords. What do I need to do? Get a new transmission or what? I've noticed that I don't have that problem with my GP that also has the 3800 Series II engine.

Man, I don't know whats up with these supposedly good new, upgraded 4T65-E transmissions..... I seem to be hearing about this here more and more frequently... I have almost 115,000 miles under my weaker 4T60-E and have yet to have any trouble in that department.. Mine still pulls strong.. Maybe some of the bugs were worked out of the 4T60-E by 1995.... But it does shift a bit worse than it dids a long time ago, but still functional and no metal bits....

Are you totally sure its not a little low on fluid? This could cause a moment of free play or neatural like symptoms.. Its also possible to have a clutch pack prob, amongst other things... I would at least have it checked out, by a good trans shop.. Never know it could be a minor prob or a costly prob... But have it looked at... Sorry I couldn't have been more help...
I think your idea of taking it to a shop to have it looked over might be the ticket. It seems to be full of fliud and no leaks are forthcoming from my examination of the tranny. Maybe I should check with ZZP when I get some more money and just get a high performace unit.

Take a good look at Intense, also, and Domestic Performance. There are alot more options for us now.

http://www.intense-racing.com/

For the 97-2003 this site has most of the options you will need.
Read the transaxle info carefully.

My site www.domesticperformance.com has specialty products that are pricier but top quality solutions. I am looking into making a "parts kit" for the 4T60-E so it will be more attainable for the average Bonneville owner.

Are the 4T60-E HD and the 4T65-E HD interchangeable with the 3800 series II engine?

You don’t want a 4t60-e for a 1998.
You have a 4T65-E and yes you can put a HD version on a regular 4T65-E Bonneville.

Ask Scott at intense for more info on his product. He will be glad to help.

I had the same problem for about 15,000 miles. I just tried to baby it off the launch until it'* warmed up and then I didn't seem to have the problem anymore.

These options are good if you want to spend $3000(US) for a transmission that Cottman can give you for $1900(US). Take it to them (if you have one near you) and ask them for a performance rebuild. They'll even flash your PCM with upgraded specs for better shifts. I've had no problems since my rebuild, and I get a lovely "SCREECH-BANG" if I get on it.

Had never heard of Cottmans till you told me just now. Checked to find out where they are in my area,(thank you cpu), and found that there are three in my area. Have also e-mailed them with a few questions about price and sevices. Will let you know what I hear from them.
