Default Is a pop-up camper pullable?

I bet this question never got asked very often so I'm unsure where to put it. So I put in General.

I'm buying a pop up camper, it weights approx. 2500 pounds. Could my Bonneville pull it fine? Yes I realize the max towing capacity is 1000 but I was thinking after it gets moving, not that much weight to pull.... Plus the tongue weight is not that terribly heavy.

Thoughts?

It is possible and it'* been asked many times (towing anyway). Search on "towing".

I've towed tons of stuff with my 99. The transmission is getting very mushy, but that'* due to my bad practices. The most I've ever towed is 3,100 lbs on a 400 mile trip.

For starters on your application...

I suggest a transmission cooler and transmission temperature sensor.
Keep the speeds down.
Pull in 3rd opposed to D.
Allow enough stopping distance. Getting up to speed is useless if you can't stop.

Being sensible is key.

Most of the reason behind your car not being rated to tow that weight should be based on the braking capacity of the car.

Last thing you want to do is use the brakes..realize you can't stop the load from the speed and crash or have the trailer pass you when the car locks up.

And the wind resistance. Even a collapsed pop-up trailer will act as a parachute behind your car.

Oh. time to sell the Bonnie for a truck

Just kidding, I'll have to use the Tahoe. I was hoping I could use my car but the area I like to go is very very hilly so I doubt it'll survive....
