Default Rear window tint.

Has anyone else been told that it is almost impossible to tint the rear window? I had a shop tell me that they wouldn't touch it, and another shop try (TWICE!!) with no success. Has anyone tried a do-it-yourself tint kit with any success?

Whats wrong with the rear window?? I have 3% on mine. I have done about 10 of them. Nothing special, just a rear wndow.

I always cut my own tint. None of that prepackage & cut crap.

BTW most competint<sp? shops charge about $65 & it takes about an hour.

All depending on what year Bonneville you have why they turn you down. If it is like the 91 style back window its easy to do because it is flat. But if it is the curved type rear window it is harder due to the fingers. that when you have to use a heat gun and melt to film to form to the rear window. this is the trickiest part and can ruin the whole job. The only way I know of doing windows like this is to use two sheets.

Agreed, I've seen plenty of curved windows have tints added with no problems at all. My 89 was a piece of cake for a reputable shop. Doing it yourself is OK, but you need eternal patience (esp if you are an amateur )

If they can't do it then they are not a real tint shop and don't even go close to them. I had my cutlass doen and that was a PITA. But the shop did it. As you can see in the image, the back window not only curves out at the bottom but turns towards the front on both sides. Not to mention it'* a big window

I just figured it had something to do with the rear defroster.

they are supposed to put little slits for the defroster lines. i have these slits, but i still don't run the rear defrost because i don't want to chance the rear tint bubbling.
