go to your car, start it, apply brake, put it in gear, put it back in park, let off brake, turn off ignition, take out key, dont push brake, and see if you can put it in gear

i have a problem with my shifter cable...... i can put the car in any gear with the keys out of the ign and not ever touch the brake

I can't even press my little button in unless my pedal is on the floor. Sometimes I can't even press it in then.

sounds like your brake switch is sticking... i would check the actuator on the shift lock and see if it is not working properly..

i might know where to get a new actuator for dirt cheap if this is teh problem

thing is it works just fine when the car is running...still actuator?

in the center console, the cable that tells your shifter when you apply the brake

what would be the CORRECT way to fix this?

looks like buying the rod with the broken tip. I wonder where that connect to?
