Power Steering hoses
I've been having a problem with my power steering fluid leaking out completely the last few days. Last night my dad jacked up the car and 2 hoses were a little loose but then he checked some other hoses (having something to do with the ps) further under the car that had rubbed together and caused a hole. The problem is that my dad will have to (I think I have all of this right) lower the transmission manifold, take off/disassemble the rack & pinion and jack up the subframe(?) from the engine about 5" to get to what he described as a cubby hole of sorts to swap out the hoses. So the problem doesn't sound major but is more of a major pain in the arse to get to it.
Have you guys had this happen? My power steering pump is at the bottom right side of the motor. I am having to drive Mom'* Buick Regal and not happy about it. Dad is going to work on the car tonight when he gets off of work.

You shouldn't have to jack the motor and lower subframe and remove trans to do it.

By the time I could sign up, explain the situation and get a response it will probably be too late. My dad will start tearing it apart this afternoon. I almost called you last night, Bill, to see if you had any ideas but didn't want to bother you. My dad looked in the Chilton'* manual on how to repair it.

Power Steering Hoses Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lift Points.
2. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch any fluid that may drain.
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
4. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering pump.
5. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering cooler pipe.
6. Remove the rubber section of the power steering return line from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the rubber section of the power steering return line to the vehicle.
2. Install the power steering return hose to the power steering cooler pipe.
3. Install the power steering return hose to the power steering pump.
4. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Fill the power steering system. Refer to Refilling the Power Steering System.
8. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding Power Steering System.
9. Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump Leak

6. Lower the vehicle.

5. Remove the power steering cooler pipe retaining clip bolt from the frame.
6. Remove the power steering cooler pipe from the retaining clips on the frame.
7. Remove the power steering cooler pipe from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the power steering cooler pipe to the retaining clips on the frame. NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the power steering cooler pipe retaining clip bolt to the frame.
o Tighten the power steering cooler pipe retaining clip bolt to 9.5 Nm (86 inch lbs.) .
3. Install the power steering hoses to the power steering cooler pipe.
4. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in General Information.
5. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Fill the power steering system. Refer to Refilling the Power Steering System
8. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding Power Steering System
9. Check the power steering system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump Leaks.

2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (L36 (VIN K) or Drive Belt Replacement (L67 (VIN 1) in Engine.
3. Remove the power steering pressure line from the power steering gear performing the following steps:
3.1. The power steering pressure line is the lower line at the power steering gear.
3.2. Using a 18 mm (crow'* foot line wrench with a 2 foot long, 3/8 inch drive extension.
3.3. Access the power steering pressure line from the engine compartment, between the rocker arm cover and the front of the dash mat.
4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lift Points.
5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
6. Remove the power steering pressure line (2) from the clamps (1) on the power steering gear.
7. Remove the power steering pressure line from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the power steering pressure line to the vehicle.
2. Install the power steering pressure line (2) to the clamps (1) on the power steering gear.
3. Install the power steering pressure line to the power steering pump.
o Tighten the power steering pressure line fitting to the power steering pump to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) .
4. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
5. Lower the vehicle.

5. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering cooler pipe.
6. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering pump.
7. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering hose retainer.
8. Remove the power steering return hose from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the power steering return hose.
2. Install the power steering return hose to the power steering hose retainer.
3. Install the power steering return hose to the power steering pump.
4. Install the power steering return hose to the power steering cooler pipe.
5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (L36 (VIN K) or Drive Belt Replacement (L67 (VIN 1) J in Engine.
8. Fill the power steering system. Refer to Refilling the Power Steering System.

I met up with my Dad at the parts store yesterday and the hose was actually a part of the rack and they didn't sell just the hose I needed. The manager told us with as small of a hole that was in the hose he recommended having someone braise it or I would have to pay $200 for the whole rack. My dad had someone braise it for $5 and I am back on the road today. Hiphiphurray!!!! I am a happy lady

The guy gave my dad a rubber hose to put over it but the fit where the hose went was too tight but my dad used a screwdriver and pushed the hose (which was metal) and forced a 1/4" gap between the other hose that caused the friction.
